About the Festival2018-03-12T00:19:04+00:00

The new East Devon Music Festival has sprung from the Honiton Festival, which was founded thirty years ago by John Dalton and Roger Hendy. As the old  name indicated, the majority of concerts were held in Honiton.  The Festival original took place every two years and we have reverted to the biennial format after a few years of holding annual Festivals. Also, the new Festival is now in June!

With the new East Devon Music Festival, we aim to take classical music to many more places in East Devon.  We do start and end the Festival in Honiton, but are holding concerts in Sidmouth, Axminster, Stockland and Upottery as well as three concerts in the lovely setting of the Deer Park Hotel, at Weston, two miles west of Honiton.

Our 2018 Festival includes top international artists Tasmin Little and Piers Lane, as well as other distinguished  professional performers – the Dante Quartet, pianist Libby Burgess  with Gemma Summerfield and Gareth Brynmor John (singers who have both won the coveted Kathleen Ferrier competition), and pianists Luka Okros and Mark Verter.  We welcome 4 Girls 4 Harps back to Honiton,  the ISCA Ensemble will be performing for us, and we have a great ensemble of young musicians, Pocket Sinfonia, and a splendid local choir. The Festival ends with a concert of light music with the ISCA Light Orchestra with Music Deco.

If you have never been to a live Classical music concert, why not dip your toe in the water?  Classical Music really is for everyone.  You do not need special knowledge to enjoy it.  You do not have to dress up to go to our concerts (although please feel free to do so if you wish).  Tickets start at £10. and will go on sale to the public via this website in April 2018.

We look forward to welcoming you to the very first East Devon Music Festival.
